WHAT TO EXPECT:
- Expect to meet God. At Luling Church, public worship is not primarily ritual or ceremony - it is communion. It is a time when we gather in the presence of God to be convicted, scoured, encouraged, healed, equipped, and loved. It is a time when we get to confess and praise and express love to our Lord.
- Expect to meet other people. Our communion is not only with God. It is with one another. You won’t be mobbed when you show up for worship. But you will run into a number of people who ask your name and warmly welcome you to Luling Church.
- Expect the "feel" of Sunday morning to be casual - intimate - honest. Come as you are. You don’t have to dress up or pull it all together or paste on a smile. You are welcome whatever your circumstances or spiritual condition. Luling Church is a place for strugglers.
- Expect variety. We work hard to be creative, experimental, compelling with our presentation of the Word and our invitation to worship. The "order of worship" will change from time to time. Boredom and predictability are not the best friends of worship.
- Expect a theme. Every Sunday pursues a thought, idea, scripture, thesis. You’ll see it woven through songs, prayers, sermon, and Supper comments. Listen for it. Kook to our bulletin for these themes
- Expect the unexpected to bring the theme alive. Sometimes you will hear a song performed by a quartet. Sometimes there will be periods of silence or "Amens!"
- Expect to hear from God’s Word. We are a people of the Book. We believe that, in God’s Word, we find the source of life (Jesus) and discover the kind of life God calls us to live.
- Expect people to express their worship in different ways. For example, some may kneel during prayer, raise their hands in praise, or publicly respond to an invitation at the end of the sermon. You won’t have to express yourself in those ways (unless you want to). But each worshipper is encouraged to express their worship to God in whatever way is natural. We encourage people to be natural and discourage acting un-naturally.
- Expect to take the Supper and remember the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord - a reminder of the central truths of our faith.
- We're on this journey together. If you’re looking at this web site -- if you’re thinking about a church -- chances are good you are on a faith journey. Have you just begun? Just discovered a hunger for God? Welcome aboard! Are you searching for fresh energy, fresh faith? Come walk with us. Are you wounded, disappointed, disillusioned? We know what that’s like. You’ll find something genuine, something healing at Luling Church.
- Luling Church is not a perfect place (we are people, after all). You will find, though, that we are authentic. Our faith, our fellowship, our walk before the Lord is honest. We are not afraid to look for truth. We want to make a difference in the world. And, in that cause, we are willing to take some risks, to endure some failure.
- Luling Church is not for everyone. But this church does have something to offer everyone who wants to become part of our family. We offer you our vision and ministries, our homes and friendship, our energies and time. If you will offer the same to us, we can journey together toward God -- our ultimate destination.
